Breast Cancer Care WA's Long Table Lunch
Pack Down volunteer crew required
Monday 4 April 2016, 9.30am - 1.30pm
Claremont Showgrounds

Fast approaching is Breast Cancer Care WA's annual and well reputed Celebration of Women Long Table Lunch, being held Sunday 3 April at Claremont Showgrounds.
The Long Table Lunch is the major fundraising event for the charity. Breast Cancer Care WA receives no government funding, and this event raised a total of over $300,000 in 2015. This is a very significant contribution which enables Breast Cancer Care WA to offer specialised services, free of charge, to the increasing number of Western Australians diagnosed with breast cancer and their families.

The event is inspiring, with an incredible amount of support from sponsors and the community. Every item is donated including the prizes, decorations, drinks, entertainment, infrastructure, and all of the food, even down to the butter used in the five course lunch that is cooked and served by 170 volunteers.

Breast Cancer Care WA is seeking a team of up to 15 volunteers to help with pack down/bump out on Monday 4 April between 9.30am - 1.30pm (approx.) at Claremont Showgrounds, Claremont, WA.  Please note, the volunteer team could be made up of 2-3 smaller groups of 5 if required.

We envisage the pack down will take approx. 3-4 hours and tasks will include packing down of trestle tables, stacking chairs (750), collating and packing linen, cutlery and other hire equipment and other jobs to assist staff as required. Some tasks will require some manual labour/lifting/moving, and other tasks will be more light duties. Please note, trolleys and forklift will be available onsite to assist.

WANT TO GET INVOLVED??
If you are interested or want to get a group together to volunteer and support the amazing work that we do at Breast Cancer Care WA , please contact Rachel Kemp, Volunteer Program Coordinator,

On the 20th of May, six graduates volunteered at the second SciTech event for 2015, a program specifically tailored for 'Gifted & Talented' primary and early high school students. The event called 'Drive-Ride-Fly' aimed to introduce the students to the physics behind motion and transportation.

The volunteers manned three different D.I.Y. stations during the evening; the hovercraft garage, the paper plane airport and the blimp factory. All three stations required the students to build, test and modify their designs to see which one of their builds hovered the longest, flew the furthest and moved the fastest. The event was a huge success!

The grads had an awesome time showing the students around, teaching them about science and feeding them copious amounts of chocolate to the delight of their worried parents. Thanks to Ellie Beurteaux, Madeline Boorman, Kate Duff, Joy Pan, and Tram Do for joining me in volunteering. Handling 100+ kids going bananas over science was super fun.

Monday 12 May marks the first day of the 25th Anniversary of National Volunteer Week. "Celebrate the power of volunteering" is the theme for 2014 celebration.

During the week there will be many celebratory events happening across the country as National Volunteer Week sparks an opportunity to say thank you as well as a call to action for more volunteers!

Here at Woodside it's an opportunity for us to thank our employees that volunteered though our corporate volunteering program.  Through this program in 2013 contributed over 5400 hours to a range of not-for profit organisations across the state.

To get involved with National Volunteering Week, visit Volunteering WA's website - http://volunteeringwa.org.au/
