Two representatives from the Leeuwin Ocean Adventure Foundation recently visited Broome to promote the Foundation’s Youth Development program.
The annual visit was to meet with local schools and North Regional TAFE to offer a marine scholarship opportunity to students to experience a week-long voyage onboard the STS Leeuwin II. The Foundation were also seeking to gain support for potential sponsorship funding under the Royalties for Regions Kimberley Community Chest Fund.
The Leeuwin Foundation is an award winning provider of personal development and leadership programs that provides key life skills for young people aged 14-25 that they will take into their studies, careers and community.
Chief Executive Officer, Carol Shannon said “Our representatives love getting out to the regions to connect with schools, local businesses and the community.”
“Broome youth can apply for Woodside Marine Scholarships which were on offer to regional youth aged 14-25 on the visit North.”
The Leeuwin Foundation has a three year sponsorship agreement with 60 Woodside Scholarships available to young people who live in the Broome, Roebourne, Karratha, Exmouth or Perth Metropolitan area and who are interested in a career in the marine environment or the maritime industry.
Since 1986, the Leeuwin has provided exciting and life-changing programs to more than 40,000 young people across Australia.
The voyages aim to challenge and inspire young people to realise their personal potential and make a positive contribution to the wider community.
