Through Woodside's support of Australia Day WA (formerly known as Australia Day Council of WA), over 400 primary schools across Western Australia participate in the Aussie of the Month award program.
The Aussie of the Month award recognises students for personal endeavour, achievement and contribution to the community. They reflect on some of the values that we share as Australians – a sense of fair play, generosity of spirit, commitment to community participation and a respect for the environment.
Every month, a student or students are chosen by their school as the Aussie of the Month. Recipients are presented with the Aussie of the Month badge and certificate at their school assembly.
Recently, Woodside Corporate Affairs Adviser, Cher Gibellini attended the Aussie of the Month presentation at Collier Primary School in Como, where students Zach Arnold and Matilda Pyne received the first awards for 2016.
Also in attendance were Young Australians of the Year 2016, Nic Marchesi and Lucas Patchett who started Orange Sky Laundry in September 2014. In a world first, Orange Sky Laundry offers is a free mobile laundry service to homeless people in Brisbane, Melbourne, South East Victoria, Sydney, the Gold Coast and Perth.
School Principal Kevin Saunders, said "This was a marvellous opportunity to have such inspiring young people come to talk to our students. It made the award presentation even more special."
