Surf Life Saving WA (SLSWA) held its annual Awards of Excellence on Saturday, 23 May 2015.
The Awards of Excellence celebrate outstanding contributions and achievements from SLSWA volunteers, lifeguards, athletes and clubs.
SLSWA Chief Executive Officer James O'Toole said, "Surf Life Saving clubs and members do so much for the West Australian community, and the Awards of Excellence are one way we can acknowledge the efforts of clubs and individuals."
"Our volunteers continue to do an outstanding job of protecting the community at WA's most popular beaches," James said.
During the 2014/15 season volunteer surf lifesavers performed 625 rescues, administered 2,252 First Aid treatments and performed 19,992 Preventative Actions, an increase of more than 50 per cent on the previous season.
Woodside's Safety Partnership with SLSWA, provides new pocket-sized patrol Procedures Booklet for all patrolling surf lifesavers. The booklets were designed to aid SLSWA Members whilst performing Patrol duties, which include performing Preventative Actions.
"The importance of Preventative Actions shouldn't be underestimated. It's where lifesavers intervene to prevent beachgoers getting into trouble in the first place. They serve a valuable educational purpose as well as providing a real-time response," James said.
In addition to the procedures booklet, Woodside's partnership also provides personal flotation jackets to all Inflatable Rescue Boat (IRB) crews and jet ski operators, as well as sun safe hats for all patrolling lifesavers and long sleeved rash vests for Nipper Water Safety personnel.
Woodside's Vice President, Health, Safety, Environment and Quality, Greg Mogan attended the Awards and is pictured presenting Belinda Kuster from the Scarboro SLSC with her Trainer of the Year award.
"Woodside and SLSWA share a common commitment to the community and to health and safety. Our partnership sees Woodside supporting the protectors, keeping life savers safe as they patrol our coastline.
"Congratulations to all the winners and nominees."
