The Rabbits, which Premiered at PIAF earlier this year, was recently announced the Helpmann Award winner in all four categories it was nominated in: Best New Australian Work; Best Original Score; Best Costume Design and Best Presentation for Children. As the Development Partner of Barking Gecko, Woodside is thrilled that this local Western Australian theatre company, has received nationally recognition for this beautifully created production.
The Helpmann Awards recognise distinguished artistic achievement and excellence in the many disciplines of Australia's vibrant live performance sectors, including musical theatre, contemporary music, comedy, cabaret, opera, classical music, theatre, dance and physical theatre.
PIAF was also announced as the Helpmann Award winner of Best Special Event for The Incredible and Phenomenal Journey of The Giants to the Streets of Perth, which opened the 2015 PIAF. As PIAF's Indigenous Program Partner, Woodside's support aided the Festival in engaging with Aboriginal artists and elders to help celebrate Noongar culture, including the opening Welcome to Country that was seen by an estimated 400,000. The indigenous creative component of The Giants was also coordinated and delivered by another Woodside partner, Yirra Yaakin Theatre Company.
